According to the review in ORPHEUS «Kaum seinen Ohren glaubt, wenn man voller Grausen hört, wie es auf den beiden CDs auf den Neapel von 1953 eiert und scheppert, wenn BENIAMINO GIGLI einen seiner letzten Nemorinos in Donizetti's ELISIR D'AMORE singt. It is possible (probable?) that the recording on the LPs from HRE is also of the performance in Genoa in view of the fact that Legato Classics were the successor to HRE

Comments:- Recording of excerpts of Acts 1,2,3 from a performance at the Teatro alla Scala. The partial cast listed by Handelman in his calalog dated November 2000 is Frazzoni, Corelli, and Bastianini and the date is given as 20 January 1960. However, according to the archive that used to be on the La Scala website (http://www.lascala.com) Tebaldi, not Frazzoni sang on this date. Frazzoni sang in the performances on 24, 28, and 31 January, but in these performanes Gérard was sung by Ugo Savarese, not Ettore Bastianini. The cast listed above is that for 24, 31 January. On the 28 January Roucher was sung by Silvio Maionica and Fouquier Tinville by Vittorio Tatozzi.

The date given in Charles Handelman's catalog (November 2000) is 9 December 1963, but according to the archive in (that was in?) the La Scala website (www.teatroallascala.org) Cavalleria rusticana was not performed on that date. The CDR issued by Premiere was advertized as «New» in «Fall 2001».
