Comments:- *Recording of excerpts of Acts 1,2,3 from a performance at the Teatro alla Scala. The partial cast listed by Handelman in his calalog dated November 2000 is Frazzoni, Corelli, and Bastianini and the date is given as 20 January 1960. However, according to the archive that used to be on the La Scala website (http://www.lascala.com) Tebaldi, not Frazzoni sang on this date. Frazzoni sang in the performances on 24, 28, and 31 January, but in these performanes Gérard was sung by Ugo Savarese, not Ettore Bastianini. The cast listed above is that for 24, 31 January. On the 28 January Roucher was sung by Silvio Maionica and Fouquier Tinville by Vittorio Tatozzi.

Comments:- *Audio and video recordings of performances in the Bunka Kaikan, Tokyo. According to the archive section of the operajaponic website there were 3 performances in Tokyo (28 September, 1, 5 October 1961) and one in Osaka (28 October 1961) and the role of Gerard was shared by Giangiacomo Guelfi and Aldo Protti. According to «Aldo Protti - Un Baritono fatto così» p.143 Protti sang in the performances on October 1 and 28, so presumably Guelfi sang in the other two. Consistent with this the recording on the CDs issued by Opera d'Oro (according to their online catalogue) is of a performance on 1 October 1961 and the role of Gerard is sung by Protti. On the other hand, according to Masatoshi Nozaki (Opera Disc Collection 2nd edition p.397) in the performance on the laser disc issued by King Video and the CD issued by Legato Gerard is sung by Guelfi. According to the review of the LPs issued by Melodram in FANFARE the recording on these discs comes from two performances and Guelfi sings in Acts 1-3 and Protti in Act 4. The DVDR issued on the Encore label is (was?) listed on the website of «berkshire record outlet inc.» (hyperlink in CLORLINK.HTM). Here Aldo Protti is listed as a performer. The recordings issued by VAI are of the performance on 1 October 1961.
