Recordings of La gazza ladra by Gioacchino Rossini are surveyed in the following publications:-
CELLETTI p.772; L'Avant Scène Opéra No.110 p.104; GIUDICI p.727
Comments:- According to the review by DST in OPERA (December 1959 pp.796-797) the opera was performed in a «badly mutilated» version made by Zandonai because that was the only orchestral material that Ricordi could supply. According to the «EJS Discography» p.261 «Sides three and four of this set have been defective on virtually all copies, with heavy pressing bumps». It was not however the first revival in the twentieth century as DST (loc.cit.) reports that he had seen a performance by the Kentish Opera Group fifteen months earlier. He also reviewed this for OPERA (September 1958 pp.609-610)

Comments:- Video recording of a television film. «After the end of the 1965 Festival Glyndebourne produced three one-act operas in the theatre for BBC television - Dido and Aeneas, L'Heure espagnole, and Busoni's Arlecchino.....The Purcell and Ravel operas had never been performed at Glyndebourne before and so qualified for a useful subsidy from the BBC which helped the cost of staging the two new productions for its 1966 season (Spike Hughes in «Glyndebourne - A History of the Festival Opera» p.242). When it was performed at Glyndebourne in 1966 Sheila Armstrong sang Belinda and Patricia Johnson sang the Sorceress (Hughes loc. cit. p.342)

Comments:- Recording of a performance at Covent Garden. Oriel gives the date as «during 1969», but this opera was not performed with this cast during that year. It seems likely that it is a recording of the performance broadcast on 25 January 1966 (See Radio Times January 20 1966 p.38). The performance on 1 January 1966 is reviewed in OPERA March 1966 p.242.

Comments:- Recording of a performance at the Londom Coliseum. Oriel gives the date as 13 October 1977 on which date a performance was broadcast by BBC Radio 3, but Chandos gives the date as 13 December 1977. The latter appears to be incorrect as on this date Dalibor was performed by the ENO. The performance on 6 October 1977 is reviewed in OPERA December 1977 pp.1189-1190. It is stated incorrectly in the review in OPERA NOW that «Werther is taken by Patrick Wheatley»
